About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and experienced UX professional to join our team at City Innovate. As the Senior User Experience Lead, you will work closely with our product, engineering, and customer support teams to bring designs from idea stage to high-fidelity as well as to build up UX best practices and touch points to ensure delivery of a reliable and high-quality experience throughout our product. Though we are expecting this role to start focused on individual contribution, this role will report directly to the CEO with the expectation to grow into a management/director level position within the company.


You will:

  • Plan and conduct user research activities with Product and other relevant stakeholders to increase frequency and quality of user touch points.
  • Combine UX expertise with keen design execution to produce design artifacts ranging from lo-fi wireframes to interactive prototypes.
  • Continuously incorporate customer research findings and feedback into design concepts.
  • Work with Product Managers to define high-level requirements for new products and features.
  • Create conceptual designs to facilitate customer research and stakeholder alignment.
  • Lead the strategy and direction of City Innovate’s design system, ensuring visual cohesion across the product.
  • Build up company-wide UX best practices for research, design, execution, and follow-up that is shared and practiced throughout the company


About You

  • Prior experience building design processes in a B2B or B2C environment.
  • Fluency in one or more design tools (e.g. Figma, Sketch, InVision, Adobe XD, etc.).
  • Deep knowledge of UX industry standards, usability, and accessibility.
  • Knowledge of a range of usability and UX research tools and techniques (e.g. generative and evaluative research, usability testing, survey research, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • A passion for interacting with and learning from users.
  • Ability to think in the abstract and anticipate how small details will fit into the larger picture.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and excited to make an impact in civic tech.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Bonus: UI/UX design experience at an enterprise SaaS start-up.
  • Bonus: UI/UX design experience at a B2B2C company.

  • Competitive compensation, dependent on experience: $130,000 - $160,000

About the Hiring Process

Bulleted below is a rough outline of what to expect in our hiring process:

  • Screening call with our hiring director.
  • The first round of interviews will be with members of our product and/or engineering teams. We’ll be scheduling these on a rolling basis as applications come in.
  • For candidates who progress further, there will be a 2-3 hour take-home case study. In recognition of your time and efforts, we’ll send you a $100 Amazon gift card regardless of outcome. We allow candidates 1 week to complete the assignment.
  • We’ll invite final-round candidates back to present their case study to the broader team.
  • We expect to make an offer to the successful candidate by mid-May with an expected start soon thereafter.
