The Public Works Department is seeking a comprehensive and easy-to-use solution to improve the accessibility of GIS information for our City engineering staff.


A goal of the Public Works Department is to improve its work environment by increasing information access and mobility for staff so they are fully capable of performing their jobs from remote sites.  This requires providing a path to access files, construction plans, standard operating procedures, reference materials, correspondence, meetings, etc. from a user friendly one stop shop. The department is currently implementing changes to its department hub to provide some of these materials, but there are many other data repositories such GIS layers that have not been brought together to be readily available and accessible remotely. The ultimate goal is to create a new application or ECPNet (like Citynet, but not using custom code) that can be built on the latest version of Microsoft SharePoint 365. This improvement to information access for staff will revamp our Departments’ Cityhub with a new look and feel; and making it more encompassing of available resources and user friendly in a functionality that allows users to get information needed in just a few clicks. 

Requirements & Outcome

Public Works Department seeks a solution that would have the following outcomes: 

  • Utilize phones, tablets and lap tops to access City’s GIS information in a user-friendly environment. 
  • Ability for users to access GIS information from job site, satellite office, or home, without having to log onto to a desktop office computer. 
  • Capability to build-on to this solution as needed to incorporate additional information from various other sources.
